I started the story with a brief history of the magical wars that took place during the late 1970s and lasted 25 years. The war broke out between spellcasters and witches, two distinct groups of magic users who have never gotten along; the spellcasters blamed the witches for causing nothing but trouble for both the magical world and the non-magical world.
Also, I’ve eliminated most of the rather silly notion of wizards vs muggles trope by having many non-magical humans participate in the magic wars, and many people were killed during the wars as well. Janette’s father, a non-magical human named Linus Lennox (who was constantly criticized for his decision to marry a spellcaster named Helen Hawksley), leads a team of desperate men and they steal the famed Book of Magic from an evil witch. Linus, fearing for his family’s safety, persuades his wife to flee and has Janette sent to the village church for protection.
That’s where we find Janette, who has an unknown destiny ahead of her…
