Camp NaNoWriMo, Day 17

I’m now caught up to the word count and the word count is at 28,818 words. I’d like to get rid of some of that plot line as soon as July ends.

Anyway, I’m FINALLY on chapter 5 of the story and Melissa discovers that because of her aunt’s anti-government activities during the late 1980s, she’s not allowed to celebrate the Fourth of July. That immediately changes when the Cruz family leaves the house and everyone watches the fireworks at the local community center.

Melissa also deals with the fallout of her activities in the last chapter, where she screams her head off instead of choosing to admit that she has a problem. Mental illnesses are discussed and Melissa admits that she uses dangerous coping mechanisms to escape from her unhappy life with the Howells. But that won’t be a problem because the Cruzes are going to wipe those bad memories that Melissa had out of her head.

So, well she survive this new deal, or will her neglected musical dreams go up in smoke? Stay tuned!
