End of NaNoWriMo 2014

Well, it’s the end of NaNoWriMo, and as such, it’s time to put away that story until a few months has passed and you can edit it without feeling guilty for adding/omitting anything.

Because that’s what I’m going to do.

In the month of March.

Now that November is ending, I’m going to be slowing down quite a bit and getting my writings together for my 2014 story anthology. Plus, I’m going back to my serial novels and getting the first few episodes ready for publication on Smashwords.

Now you know.

My books Harry Moffer & the Dumbest Story Ever!!! and The Summer of Our Discontent are available on Smashwords.com.

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

I’m just thankful that I have completed NaNoWriMo, so I can participate in the holidays without feeling guilty about not writing anything. But then again, I still have a few more days left in November left, so I can easily write some short stories and call it even.

See you tomorrow.

NaNoWriMo 2014 Update: Day 26

This is it.

I have fought against the fourth-week slump and and happy to say that I now have written 52,595 words this month. As of right now, I am finished with NaNoWriMo.

However, I feel nothing but disappointment in this story, as if I never should have written this story in the first place. Writing about someone who likes fan fiction is draining and not very exciting. I think I may have created the worst character since Sheila Baines.

But at least Noelle Forbes makes an effort to redeem herself. Sheila does nothing redeeming but continues her reign of terror until the Teen Rebels stop her permanently

Anyway, I’m putting that story away and continuing with last year’s novel. Hopefully, I can get that done so I can publish it for real on Smashwords.

Once again, I have surprised myself.

After 25 days of writing, I am pleased to say that I have typed 50,252 words of my story Confessions of a FanFiction Writer last night, making me an official winner of this year’s NaNoWriMo.

*cue party music*

But I am not done with this story yet, seeing as I have to finish up chapter 10 before the day is done. I won’t be adding anything else to the story until I have done some heavy editing, which will happen on March 1, 2015.

Anyway, I’m going to get back to work, as the story can’t really write itself.

NaNoWriMo 2014 Update: Day 24

Well, this is it, everyone. We’ve reached the dreaded forth-week slump, which I have dubbed the fourth week of NaNoWriMo. I usually hate this time of year, since Thanksgiving is always on Thursday and there’s the threat of Black Friday and movies to pull you away from your story and make you forget that you’re even writing a story to begin with.

That happened to me the first three years of NaNoWriMo, so I learned to say “no” to certain things until I met my word count for the day.

And this year will be no different.

I’m now on chapter 10 if this story and now that I have gotten to this point in time, I realize that I have left out a good chunk of stuff that needed to be written and there are some things that I could leave out. I might not even have a sequel to this story at all the way things are going now.

Will I reach my goal of 50,000 words before the day is over? I hope so.

Ok, now that the month is winding down, I know for sure that I have to completely tear up this story and rewrite it in a way that it makes sense. I hope you feel the same way, such as looking back on your story so far and thinking to yourself the frick did I write?

Yeah, that’s how I feel right now.

Anyway, I hope to complete chapter 9 so I can get to chapter 10 tomorrow and hopefully reach 50,000 words before that day is over. I’m so tired of this story; the whole thing looks like bad fanfiction. Hopefully, I will put away this monster and work on the stories of NaNoWriMo past, the ones that have a chance of surpassing what I have right now.

Now you know.

NaNoWriMo 2014 Update: Day 22

Yesterday, I broke over 45,000 words, meaning that I officially have 5,000 words left to write.

At this point, I’m feeling exhausted and almost burned out.

But that’s not this post.

I just found out that this story takes place in November of 2011, and I had skipped over an entire week in that story. I wonder how *that* could have happened, since I’m usually so diligent about keeping up with the story’s timeline. (Plus, I kind of forgotten that November 11 is Veterans Day and schools are supposed to be closed since it’s a federal holiday.) That’s why there’s editing and revision.

But that won’t be until March 2015, when I have the time and energy to edit this monster that I made.

Rigt now in that story, Noelle is horrified to discover that she and some of her classmates had been the subject of real person fiction (which is just as bad as fanfiction, if not worse). Plus, Noelle learns a very difficult lesson when her English teacher discovers that she had turned in a fanfic instead of the assignment and is told to rewrite the assignment.

Well, looks like yet another blow for this fanfiction writer. Who knows what’s going to happen to her next.

NaNoWriMo 2014 Update: Day 21

I’m now on chapter 9 of the story, and at this point, Noelle has freed herself from her fantasy world (which turned into a nightmare where she imagines herself in a padded room with only a computer for company) and vows to kick her addicting habit.

By starting a blog on Tumblr.com.

Noelle (anonymously) confesses on the Internet to being “addicted to a popular character from a popular fantasy book series” and she tells the world what it is like to be addicted to fanfiction, hoping that talking about her problems will bring forth a viable solution.

Yet, she learns the hard way that not everyone is going to like or approve of fanfiction when her English teacher finds out about her bad writing habits and she is made to do her assignment all over again.

Plus, the fanfiction writing website is hacked, leaving Noelle with next to nothing to do. She must also confront her parents over why they dragged her out of church, as that might have triggered the problems that she is facing.

I know that I will have to edit this monster in March, but when I have written over 40,000 words and still have less than 10,000 words left, it’s not a good idea to slow down right now.

NaNoWriMo 2014 Update: Day 20

We’ve got ten more days to complete NaNoWriMo, and I’ve decided to step it up a notch by increasing my word count to 2,655 words over the weekend. I hope I don’t kill myself over a story.

Speaking of which, I’m getting ready to fix up the stories that didn’t get completed, starting in December with NOTORIOUS: The Ballad of Candy Cane Brenner. I will be doing a story each month until all are ready for publication.

If I can reach 50,000 words this weekend, then I’ll be finished with NaNoWriMo with an entire week to spare. Plus, I might actually be able to finish the story and safely put it aside until March 1, 2015, when it must be edited and then published on Smashwords.

So here I go!

NaNoWriMo 2014 Update: Day 19

Now that I have written 34,800 words, I realize that all too soon, NaNoWriMo is going to end for me. That is all.

Anyway, I’m still on chapter 7 and nearing the end of that part of the story where Noelle describes her quick downfall and hopefully, she can get herself back up. The reason why I titled the story “Confessions of a Fanfiction Writer” is because this is Noelle confessing to a dark secret: her love for fanfiction is starting to take over her life. (pretty much how fanfiction almost took over my life.)

But one day, I decided that enough was enough and I had to stop reading fanfiction right now or else I would probably be locked away in a padded room. I cut down the hours I spent reading fanfiction (I put myself on a time limit of one hour), and then devoted more time to cleaning my room or writing original stories.

Well, I’m still doing that, even if my interest in fan fiction is starting to (thankfully) wane.

In about five days, I could be finished writing NaNoWriMo, and for the first time, I don’t have to worry about the novel not being done when the month is over. (plus, that’ll give me time to finish my other NaNoWriMo novels and get them ready for publication.)
